I won’t say more to avoid spoilers but there is nothing here except a few of the echoes which give context to the broader universe, something I appreciated. The story starts off interesting but devolves into the normal Star Wars tropes where only a few individuals even matter, long exposition blabbed to you by the big bad enemies who continually escape or allow you to escape. You already said what needed to be said about it. The controls are horrendous and nothing you do in the game is responsive, which is why I never finished it. It feels like a corporate “we want a Star Wars video game” that is good on paper but feels awful to actually play. I thought it was one of the most mediocre, unmemorable games I’ve ever played.

It sounds amazing, plus made by Respawn and in the Star Wars universe? I thought this was going to be a great game and most of the reviews praised it. The game is basically a mash up of Dark Souls, Uncharted, and Tomb Raider. If you have gamepass already and want to kill 15 hours then I suppose there are worse ways to spend your time. If you love star wars and wanna play as a Jedi I would recommend either the force unleashed games or star wars obi wan from the original Xbox because both do it better than this. It needed some kind of homeward bone to get back to the ship. It took me about 15 hours to complete but could have been rushed a bit tondo that faster as I did start exploring initially but soon found it fruitless. It is not a good representation of a souls like, bad as a platformer and in my opinion a ridiculous telling of a star wars story. I had assumed this was set far into the SW universe future but clearly not.Īll in all it was really a mediocre game in all regards. It made no sense to me how this timeline appeared once that happened. But then the big reveal at the end just completely took me out of the game. The main villain was the most tolerable which is saying something. Obviously it was an off kilter story that wasn't canon or anything but it was largely forgetful and none of the characters were likeable in the slightest. I didn't feel like a Jedi I felt more like an Olympian or a bad mirror's edge protagonist impersonator.Īnd finally the story. Yes you got cool new abilities and a double saber eventually but the same old enemies still took the same hits to die.īut the combat being poor barely matters considering 60 percent of the game is parkour and platforming and while I will admit the sliding section on Kashyyk was fun the overall platforming was weak imo. Isn't.Īnother weird thing to me was that your weapon never got stronger in the traditional sense. The last souls related game I played before this was sekiro so the transition here was abysmal because that game is literal hitboxporn and JFO. Cals animations were weird and it was not clear what parries were going to work and which ones wouldn't because the enemies swings seemed to teleport into a deflection at some times and not at others. I don't think I need to go too in depth here as anyone who has played a souls like game or even an actual soulsborne game should agree that this one just seriously missed the mark. I shouldn't have bothered finishing it to be honest, because it never improved from the mediocre combat and forgetful story the start of the game showed. Whacked the settings all the way down and was actually able to play through the whole thing with only a few crashes. Just recent gamepass went on a very nice discount so I bought it and downloaded JFO again and decided to give it another chance. I got the game before Christmas on sale and promptly refunded it because the constant stutters drove me insane. The old /r/patientgamers Essential Games Listīit of a dramatic title but it holds some truth I think.
